Data licenses

Licenses are available from our storefront for single projects or unlimited use. This page describes what is included in the licenses.

For any questions, please contact us at info@worldmrio.com

About the 'Academic Use' licenses

Eora provides data for years 1990-2016 for free for academic users. Academic users may purchase more recent data at the storefront.
Academic use means use by:

  • students in school, high school, or enrolled in a bachelor's degree or equivalent, or
  • graduate students, for the purpose of writing an assignment, thesis, or paper published in a peer-reviewed academic journal, or
  • academic researchers (affiliated with a university, research institute, or research department within a larger organization), for use in papers published in peer-reviewed academic journals.
In academic use it is not permitted to re-publish more than 200 raw data points from Eora, publish datasets from which >200 Eora data points can be extracted or reverse engineered, or publish large datasets which are substantially based on Eora. The Eora academic license is designed to support research which derives insights from the database. For academic work which intendeds to develop a new resource based on Eora, please contact us to request permission.

By using Eora for academic purposes you are agreeing to the Eora Academic License. You must read this document as it contains important information about how you can use Eora.

A commercial license is required for all other use cases aside from the above. This includes use in reports (including reports which are peer reviewed but not published in a scientific journal), software tools, websites, or any other use case aside from theses, assignments, and academic papers in peer reviewed journals.

Under the academic license, you may use the EORA data for academic, non-commercial purposes. You may not give the data to anyone else, and you are not given permission to use it for:

  • work relating to modern slavery anywhere in the world

Please also read the remainder of this page, as some of the terms below also hold for academic use.

About Leontief multipliers: the academic license does not include precomputed Leonteif multipliers. Users can compute these themselves (the procedure is covered in the papers linked in the Documentation section of the website) or can purchase these pre-computed as a commercial license.

What are the terms of the Eora commercial license?

Please read the license terms here: Eora Commercial License. When you buy an Eora license, you will be asked to agree to this license during the order process.

Multipliers

One use for MRIO databases is to trace global supply chains and estimate embodied resource flows, such as carbon footprints, associated with spending. These results can be computed using standard input-output analysis i.e. with a Leontief model.

The multipliers data package provides a set of these results computed for you. The packages provide reports for each sector/product in each country that details the top 10 other sectors worldwide where the product footprint originates (provided for several different metrics include value added, embodied carbon, embodied water footprint, etc.), the top domestic and foreign sales destinations for that product, and similar Scope 1, Scope 2, and Scope 3 footprint results. For a sample data package please visit the page for multipliers.

All of the results in the Multipliers package can be extracted or computed from the MRIO model using standard methods. The Multipliers package simple provides some commonly used results pre-computed for your convenience. The Multipliers package is only available as an add-on to Eora licenses and is not sold separately.

Supply-Chain Explorer

The supply chain explorer tool is a data visualization which lets you explore the supply chains of monetary flows and embodied resources flows (embodied GHG emissions, water use, land use, etc.) which are documented in Eora. In addition to proiding the detailed supply chains in of a structural path analysis the tool also shows the downstream footprint of how sales from a sector are utilized. The tool lets you view the detailed supply chains or explore the total Scope 3 footprint of any sector.

The unlocked Supply Chain explorer tool is included in any license which provides multipliers for all countries. It is only available for licenses which cover all countries.

Unlimited and Single Project licenses

Unlimited Use licenses allow unlimited use by the buyer for any purpose, except bulk re-publishing of data. This is suitable for those using Eora on a continuing or recurring basis, e.g. for frequent use in consulting or projects, as an internal resource, or as input to a tool or software.

Single-Project Use licenses allow the data to be used for a single project, the scope of which is to be mutually determined and agreed at the time of sale but which typically represents a single report, consulting project, report, or similar, with a single outcome and time frame on the order of 2 months. (By default, the Single project licenses permit access to the website for 2 months, with extension upon request.)

10 Country Pack

The 10 Country Pack provides the national IO tables, and optionally the Multipliers package, for 10 countries of your choice. The countries can be selected at any time (e.g. five could be specified at purchase and the other five chosen later). You will be able to set the countries at your Account page. We do not offer pricing for individual country IO tables nor special pricing for other country sets (e.g. for coverage of the EU you would need to either choose the full Eora model or buy three 10 Country Packs).

Full Eora and Eora26

All Eora licenses cover both the full Eora MRIO table (~225m. transactions) and the simplified homogenous classification Eora26 MRIO (~23m. transactions).

Eora26 is not available as a standalone offering. All licenses include both the full and Eora26 model.

Updates

All sales include free minor updates for 1 year. These are published directly via the website.

Republishing of data

Bulk republishing, reselling, and redistribution are not allowed.

Not more than 200 individual raw data points may be published at any one location (report, paper, website, etc.).

It is permitted to publish larger result sets which combine Eora data with other data in such a way that it is not possible to use reverse-engineering to recover the Eora data.

Limitations on use

There are some limitations on how you can use Eora. It is not permitted to use Eora for the following purposes:

  1. the application of the Modern Slavery Act 2018 (Cth) (Modern Slavery Act), including any subsequent legislation;
  2. the application of any similar regulation and/or legislation dealing with the same or similar issues addressed in the Modern Slavery Act globally;
Support

Data licenses do not include support. We aim to provide a reasonable level of support for free, however in case excess support is needed we will alert you to this and begin billing for that support. Excess support can be approximately defined as more than 4 hours of nontechnical work or more than 1 hour of technical work. Excess support is provided at our consulting rate, billed in 0.5 day increments.

Satisfaction Guarantee

We strive to provide a high-fidelity database with transparent confidence intervals for all values. Due to fundamentally conflicting and incomplete data in the official data we receive this is a challenging goal to realize and we recognize that Eora - like most economic datasets - contains some outlier values. In light of this, we offer the following steps to guarantee your satisfaction:

  1. Before purchasing, make use of the Trial License period to evaluate the data you are interested in.
  2. If you identify an issue, use the Frequently Asked Questions and documentation to understand the issue and develop a workaround.
  3. Eora provides reliability statistics (standard deviations) for every value in the model. Evaluate whether you can use and communicate this uncertainty information through your analysis.
  4. We are happy to provide a modest level of support and answer questions for free.
  5. For more substantial support, i.e. requiring programming expertise, we can provide this at our daily consulting rate. Please recognize that making changes to the model for individual clients is usually not feasible. Substantial issues will be noted and addressed in future updates.
  6. If after taking the above steps the issue still prevents you from using your Eora purchase as you intended, we will offer a full refund.
